Burn Permits

The Municipality of Port Hope offers burn permits for controlled open air burning to residents in the rural area.  Open air burning is not permitted in the urban area.  There are three types of Burn Permits available; Recreational, Open Air and Over Sized.  Applications can be completed online and by visiting the Fire Administration Office located at 245 Ontario Street, Port Hope, Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  A site inspection may be required prior to receiving approval for a permit.  The applicant will be notified when the permit is approved and payments are accepted at the Fire Administration Office.  Inquires can be sent to or call 905-753-2230.

2020 Fees
Recreational Burn Permit Fee  $25 per year
 (1 x 1 x 1 metre / 1 cubic metre or 3.3 x 3.3 x 3.3 feet)

Open Air Burn Permit               $30 per year
(3 x 3 x 3 metres / 27 cubic metres or 9.8 x 9.8 x 9.8 feet)

Over Sized Burn Permit           $75 per year
 (6 x 6 x 6 metres / 216 cubic metres or 19.7 x 19.7 x 19.7 feet)
